Vacancy: Functional Business Owner

Ferranti is looking for experienced energy and utility professionals, to help build the international expansion of its MECOMS™ product.

MECOMS™ is an ERP solution for energy and utility companies, based on Microsoft Dynamics AX. MECOMS™ is the result of more than 30 years of experience in the utility industry, and is rapidly expanding its footprint on an international scale.

MECOMS™ is Microsoft‘s only recommended solution for energy and utility companies across the globe. In only a few years MECOMS™ has grown into a major international challenger, recognized by renowned industry analysts, such as Gartner, IDC and OVUM. Major software companies, such as Avanade/Accenture, Tata, and Logica have chosen to partner with Ferranti and offer MECOMS™ as preferred solution for energy and utility companies.

Function Description

The MECOMS™ product development organisation, focussed on the development of the MECOMS™ product, is organised in various knowledge centers. These knowledge centers work in team and are responisble for the delivery, quality and vision on their knowledge domain. The business owners are the people that act as a domain responsible in consultation with the development manager.

Important elements are:

• Clear structure and leadership
• Good analytical skills and strong communication skills
• Be able to think in concepts and architecture
• Technical background
• You work closely with the technical business owner of your knowledge center
• You work closely with the other functional business owners in the MPO development organisation

For the knowledge center Market Interaction which is focussed on the domains messaging, portfolio management and settlement, the MPO product development organization is currently looking for a senior functional profile who will -in close cooperation with the technical business owner- further develop the knowledge center according to the roadmap of the MECOMS™ product.

Your tasks include

• Business requirements gathering — developing high level functional design
  • Determine roadmap topics in consultation with stakeholder
  • Prepare and motivate assessments (ball park)
  • Business knowledge gathering — be an expert in your domain — "See the big picture"
  • You work closely with product management
• Developing detailed functional design
  • Application and enforcement of MECOMS™ design concepts
  • Preparation and motivation of estimates (fixed budget)
• Ownership of assigned roadmap topics — work packages — tasks
• Support the technical business owner regarding the development activities (in cooperation and consultation with the development manager)
  • Drafting and (daily) follow-up detailed (day, week, ...)-planning for developers
  • Creating tasks
  • Managing developers
  • Manage overrun, rework and milestone delivery
  • Controlling time records and tasks
• Acting as SPOC 3th line for handling requests
• Cross knowledge center management
• Knowledge sharing
  • Business transition to technical writer (on line documentation, user manual, etc.)
  • To the customer(*)
• Supporting customer demo’s(*)
  • Internal and external presentations
  • Supporting presales activities
• Support and reporting to development manager on daily (management) activities
  • Leadership
• Focus on quality
  • Support quality assurance unit with testing and general quality assurance aspects
  • Perform business acceptance testing
    • Ensuring 100% quality
    • On time — within budget and scope — keep promises
  • Achieve KPI’s related to development, support, etc.
• Collaborate with Microsoft and architecture unit
  • Assist in preparing release note and manage technical business owner for migration note
  • Support the (technical and) functional architecture
  • Support the implementation of best practices and methodology
• People management
  • Conduct performance appraisal interviews
  • Coaching the technical business owner

Profile

You have:

• At least 5 years important functional experience with ERP environments
• At least 3 years important functional experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX environment
• an MCTS level for Microsoft Dynamics AX or you are willing to achieve this
• Affinity with .NET is a major asset (C# and/or VB.NET, XML, web services, etc.)
• Experience with a software product development environment is a major asset
• Experience with Enterprise Application Integration (EAI), Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Event-Driven Architecture (EDA)
• Business-to-business (B2B) functional and architecture knowledge is a major asset
• Strong analytical skills
• Flueny in Dutch and English
• Interested in working in the utilities market
